The opening of a local Rand account is not dependant on SA debt etc. The suggestions above is little misleading. The opening of a RSA account is easy provided your UK bankers are satisfied with the way you conduct your business and prepared to confirm and certify he UK KYC (Know Your Clinet)information to the SA Bank. In SA you need to either present your FICA (www.fic.gov.za) inforamtion in person or send the info through an acceptable agent. Most of us assume that Mom or Pos having the Power of Attorney or signing powers are Ok to be used as courier. It is indeed not adequote and your bank in SA should guide you as to the KYC info being exchanged and sahred inter-bank to ensure you qualify for a SA bank. Any person who has formally emigrated may face additional compliance issues
