Hong Kong, August 2005 by Joe Murtagh
Hong Kong is absolutely fantastic. Have spent all day exploring. There's been torrential rain (it's even caused mudslides in and around HK and knocked down a load of trees) but it hasn't stopped me - no way! I got absolutely soaked today; an umbrella is pretty much useless when the rain is nearly going horizontal.
Looked around stacks and stacks of shops (there's no end to them, though they mainly seem to be clothes shops) and found the FT building, though it's not hard to miss because it's the tallest building in HK - the FT is 29 storeys up and the building itself has 88 storeys.

It is a NEW town!
When in Johannesburg recently for a night I was dragged, just about kicking and screaming, to Moyo in the Market Theatre Complex in Newtown. What an eye opener! No more kicking and screaming from me. I kicked and screamed (almost) because I had not been in Newtown for years and years and in my head it was still such a scary part of town.

Port Elizabeth
Port Elizabeth is 5th top African/ME city for quality of life. Cape Town drops to 4th, from 1st last year. Cape Town, previously the city in the region with the best quality of living, has dropped substantially in this year's ratings (from 80 to 87 in 2009). This move follows violent riots in South Africa's main cities in 2008.
