Buying and building in Cape Town

Building dreams
Sunday showhouses make house hunting in SA much nicer than it is in the UK. One can just wander in an out of a variety properties that are on sale, even those that are way out of your price range, and really get a feel for the market without signing up with agencies.
Laws regulating of the property market also make for a much more pleasant experience. Once a buyer has made an offer and a seller has accepted it both parties are legally bound to proceed and can’t just accept a better offer or just change their mind, as they can the UK so none of the gazumping nonsense that so many people suffer there.

There also seems to be less reason for conducting a structural survey, maybe because most of the houses are a lot younger than they are in the UK.
Perhaps we took a risk not doing a survey but we have done so much work to the house now and the builders have found nothing that we need to worry about … that is except the enormous and ever-rising cost.
My word, the cost! And it is not that we can even blame the builders as they have been absolutely consistently brilliant in sticking to their quote and timings, but every time we go to the house we have a new (brilliant) idea. We have had a great time adding and finessing and generally carrying on as if there is no budget restriction. Here is a little show of how our dream is taking shape!
